Installation guide
Intended Audience
All people who want to try Jim and therefore have to install it on their system.
Start
Download and install Java
All you need to run Jim is the Java Runtime Environment. Below one way
to install Java is described, of course there are others depending on
your operating system.
If you already have Java installed on your computer you can skip
this step!

Download Java for absolutely free charge from
http://java.com/.
Just click the big centered download button and follow the instructions (choose the package that fits most to your system).
- Install Java by running the self-extracting installer package and following the instructions given by the installation dialog.
Download Jim
Jim's current version level is 2.1.0.

Download Jim Standard Edition
(recommended)
Containes Jim together with seven pre-installed plugins:
- JimFileOrganizer - A plugin helping you to manage your images on filesystem level.
- JimSearch - This plugin offers a simple search engine for your images.
- JimPath2TagMapper - A plugin to tag images with their file path to access them as if you were in a file explorer.
- JimGui & interfaces for the plugins above - Jim's standard user interface.

Start Jim

Extract the .zip file you downloaded in the last step.
If your system does not support extracting zip files by default try installing 7-Zip which is a powerful Zip-Extractor available for many platforms. -
Start Jim by starting Jim's start script:
- On Windows systems: jimStarter.bat
- On Linux systems: jimStarter.sh
- On other systems: JimStarter.jar

Frequently Asked Questions
1 There is none of the named three starting scripts available!
This is probably because your operating system does not show any
filename extensions (like .bat or .jar).
A way to fix that would be to turn them on again (on Windows systems
this can be done by clicking
"Start" --> "System" --> "Folder options" --> "View" -->
"Hide known file extensions"
).
Another thing you could do if you use a grafical file explorer is to
just click on the one jimStarter file that has an icon. For example on most
Windows systems .bat files normally have the following icon:
